Arlington Talk Squelched // Edgar: No Stadium; Duchossois: No Sale

Gov. Edgar rejected the notion of using public money to build aBears stadium at the shuttered Arlington International Racecourse,saying the state doesn't have the money to spare.

And Arlington owner Richard Duchossois tried to slam the door onany talk about selling the course to local track owner Billy Johnstonand the family of baseball magnate George Steinbrenner.

"I don't think the state ought to be in the business of buildinga subsidized stadium," Edgar said. "I'm realizing the variouspriorities and limits we have on funds and the priority of needs.
