FED: Doctors say design made contraceptive hard to implant
The makers of an implanted contraceptive that resulted in pregnancy have come underfire for poor design.
The Implanon contraceptive -- released by Organon in 2001 -- is a hormonal implantinserted under the skin of the upper arm which prevents pregnancy for three years.
Organon Australia Medical Director Dr BJORN ODDENS says the company was aware of 47cases of pregnancy where it had been confirmed that the implant was never inserted inthe arm.
