Alcatel today announced that it has achieved the milestone of 1 million digital subscriber lines (DSL) installed in Brazil. Alcatel's market leadership in Brazil is more than twice that of its nearest competitor in the country. Alcatel's DSL customers in Brazil are Telemar, Telefonica, and Brazil Telecom.
The installed base of Alcatel in Brazil includes Alcatel's Advanced Service Access Manager, Alcatel's remote DSL product portfolio, and Alcatel's Litespan NGDLC. These products form the basis of Brazil's next wave of user- centric broadband services including high speed Internet access, broadcast TV, video on demand, and next generation voice over IP services.
Broadband services have become essential for the success of any complete telecom services offering. More and more global service providers are preparing for the next wave of broadband deployment: offering a full set of user-centric personalized triple-play services with a penetration that approaches a complete coverage of the households in their country. They understand the need for a broadband access network that offers more bandwidth that can be flexibly deployed to more customers simultaneously with increased service intelligence.
"Our strength lies in the fact that we are a trusted partner, with customer-focused professional services and field-proven high-quality products. At the same time we continue to successfully pave the way for the broadband access solutions of the future, in a market that is still accelerating thanks to the momentum of Video over DSL VoIP. With our global experience, we are ideally positioned to partner with telecom operators to deliver exceptional broadband services," says Michel Rahier, chief operating officer of Alcatel's fixed communications activities.
