The Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) recently announced the formation
of a partnership with Segway, LLC to have students test the company's Human
Transporters (HTs) during the upcoming academic year.
Officials said up to 15 students in IIT's interprofessional studies program
will earn class credit by studying the societal ramifications of having
hundreds or even thousands of HTs on the 120-acre campus -- including rights-of-way
and parking problems -- while researching more advanced ways of powering the
devices.
Segway will lend the HTs to the university, then sell them at a discount to
faculty and students upon completion of the trial.
