TECHAMERICA STATEMENT ON ANNOUNCEMENT OF NEW NATIONAL OFFICE FOR TRUSTED IDENTITY STRATEGY.

Arlington, Virginia -- The following information was released by the Information Technology Association of America:
TechAmerica President and CEO Phil Bond issued the following statement following the unveiling today of the National Program Office for the National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace at the Department of Commerce. Bond made the comments following the announcement by Secretary of Commerce Gary Locke at an event hosted by TechAmerica, TechNet, Stanford University, the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research, the Churchill Group and TRUST.
"We are extremely pleased to have a dedicated point of contact to secure the government's support in creating a more trusted identity infrastructure. In today's announcement and through its committed outreach to the private sector to date, the government has clearly recognized that the tech industry must drive implementation of the national strategy. We call upon the government to establish an even stronger public-private partnership by creating a private sector advisory committee for the program office."
"Internet commerce and today's digital society run on trust -- people need to know who they are dealing with. While so many companies are already leading the way to ensuring and protecting Americans' identities, more needs to be done. We look forward to working with the Department of Commerce toward that goal."
